Andrew Garfield is a dual citizen British-American actor in theatre, television and film. He is best known for his role in the 2010 movie ‘The Social Network’ with Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake, as well as starring in the reboot franchise of the Spider-Man comic, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’. His work in the entertainment industry has provided him with an estimated net worth of USD $10 million dollars.
Garfield was born on August 20th, 1983 in Los Angeles, California and spent his childhood growing up in the town of Epsom in the county of Surrey, England after moving there at the age of 3.
Although Garfield originally intended to study business, he took an interest in acting at the age of 16. During his post-secondary years, Garfield studied at the University of London’s Central School of Speech and Drama graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2004. Garfield started his acting career in 2004 with roles in theater productions, taking parts with the Royal Exchange Theater in Manchester, England.
The following year in 2005, Garfield took his first role in the television industry with a part in the program ‘Sugar Rush’ by the British network Channel 4. During the year of 2007, Garfield worked on some significant roles that boosted his career, first appearing in three episodes of Doctor Who and secondly appearing in his first Hollywood film ‘Lions for Lambs’ alongside Tom Cruise, Robert Redford and Meryl Streep.
In the subsequent three years, Garfield reached critical acclaim for his performances on the television show ‘Boy A’ and the 2010 films ‘Never Let Me Go’ and ‘The Social Network’. He was nominated for several awards for his performance in these three roles, winning six of them. Garfield starred in the 2012 and 2014 films of the reboot of the Spider-Man movies titled ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’.
He was cast as the lead character of Peter Parker and received praise for his portrayal of the character. Despite being well-received, he was not selected for the subsequent films as the franchise was headed in a new direction with Tom Holland. Instead, Garfield continued to take theater roles, as he was cast in the 2012 Broadway production ‘Death of a Salesman’.
Off-stage, Garfield has participated in humanitarian causes including work with the Worldwide Orphan Foundation. He received the title of Ambassador of Sports for the foundation in 2011, promoting the benefits of sports for children. In 2016 Garfield was once again cast for the films titled ‘Silence’ with Liam Neeson and ‘Hacksaw Ridge’.
