Anthony Pettis is an American mixed martial artist who was born on January 27, 1987 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Pettis is best known for his successful and lucrative UFC career. His net worth is approximately $2 million which is almost exclusively a result of his winnings at the professional ranks.
Pettis began training taekwondo and boxing when he was only five years old. He was also an avid wrestler in college and, after training in mixed martial arts for several years, received a 3rd degree black belt in taekwondo. This combination of skills has no doubt played a major role in his success as a UFC fighter.
In November of 2003, Pettis’ father was stabbed and killed by a robber while he was visiting with a friend. He has made clear that much of his motivation for the sport comes from the admiration that he has for his father.
After fighting only one match at the amateur level, Pettis quickly made a name for himself at the professional ranks. He debuted in December of 2007 and went on to win eight straight fights in MMA. From there, he debuted in the WEC and quickly went on to win the Gladiator Fighting Series Lightweight Championship.
While Pettis started his professional career with an outstanding record of 18-2, he has actually lost the only fights that he has had in both 2015 and 2016. Even still, he is ranked as the #3 lightweight in the world according to the January 2016 rankings.
In addition to the earnings of his fighting career, Pettis has also been featured in a few commercials in the past few years, although he is not generally seen as an exceptionally marketable athlete.
