Julia Stiles is a well-known name in the entertainment industry, having held a variety of different roles as an actress. Some of her most popular roles have been in teen films such as 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) for which she won MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance, Down to You (2000) and Save the Last Dance (2001). However, she has broken out of the teen genre, and has held many roles in classic motion pictures. Stiles presently has an estimated net worth of over $16 million.
While Stiles became famous for her indifferent attitude in many teen movies, she easily adapted into the world of television for the older crowd. She started with small roles in the Bourne movies (The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum), and then took on both comedic, romantic, and horror films to expand and showcase her true talent.
In a dark film in 2001, The Business of Strangers, Stiles worked with Stockard Channing, who had much to say about her acting abilities. Referring to her ability to get deeply into a character, Channing stated, “In addition to her talent, she has a quality that is almost feral, something that can make people uneasy. She has an effect on people.”
Stiles is a generous and dedicated philanthropist, having spent both time and money to contribute to Habitat for Humanity, as she helped build housing in Costa Rica. She has also spent time with Amnesty International to raise awareness of the harsh conditions of immigration detention of unaccompanied juveniles. Her widespread awareness of the conditions facing the world led her to become a vegan. However, she has since given it up, since she developed anemia from a lack of sufficient iron. She is presently engaged to camera assistant Preston J. Cook.
