Kawhi Leonard is an American professional basketball player who was born on June 29, 1991 in Los Angeles, California. He is known as being one of the best small forwards in the NBA and has established himself as a premier defender.
Leonard has accumulated a net worth that is around $12 million. That will rise significantly, however, as he continues to get paid over course of his five-year, $90 million contract that was signed in 2015 with Spurs.
Leonard’s high school career was a very successful one as he won California Mr. Basketball during his senior year while also leading his team to a 30-3 record. He was averaged 22 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists per game that year.
After high school, Leonard went on to play at San Diego State University. While he played onto two seasons with the school, he led them to the NCAA tournament both years. In his sophomore season, Leonard was named as a second team All-American and averaged a double-double.
Leonard ended up being drafted 15th overall by the Indiana Pacers in the 2011 NBA draft. He was promptly traded to the San Antonio Spurs, where he has remained ever since.
After a rookie campaign in which Leonard placed fourth in the Rookie of the Year voting, his second season concluded with a finals appearance in which he averaged 14 points and 11 rebounds per game. In his third season, he would play an integral role in leading the Spurs to an NBA championship and was named Finals MVP for his efforts.
As far as his personal life, Leonard is known for being extremely quiet and keeps most of his off the court life private. In 2008, his father was shot while working at a Compton car wash. This is viewed by many as one of the main reasons that Leonard keeps to himself a majority of the time.
